No matter how long you have been working out, there are always ways to improve your craft. There are also many myths when it comes to exercise that you should know. Here are the top fitness mistakes you should avoid.

Sticking to Only Cardio

If you want to lose weight, you shouldn’t just do cardio. Weight lifting is an important part to include as well, because it boosts your metabolism, which helps you burn calories faster. This doesn’t mean that you should not do your cardio on a treadmill at all, but your weekly workout routine should feature a healthy mix of both to get fit.

Focusing on Weight Instead of Technique

While weight lifting is a necessary part of your workout routine, you still have to do it the right way. Many people head into their gym and believe that it’s all about how much you lift. However, to really get results, it’s all about your form. To put it simply, if you don’t practice proper form when you do bench presses or back squats, you aren’t truly working your muscles.

Taking Too Much Time In Between Sets

Something many people can be found guilty of during their workout is taking too much time in between their sets. Getting distracted and spending too much time on your phone and not getting back to your workout is a huge reason why you might not be seeing the results you desire. The point of working out is to truly work your muscles, and giving them too much rest won’t benefit you. Try to take no longer than a minute to get to the next set. You can also do a superset, which will work a different muscle than the one you just worked out.

Not Taking Rest Days

When people commit themselves to the gym, there is a common assumption that you have to exercise every day for two hours to get the body you want. While you should still commit yourself to a weekly schedule, it can be anywhere from three to six days a week. When you adopt a workout routine, your body needs to rest. By not resting, you increase the risk of injury.

Skipping Leg Day

Many people put all their focus on upper body exercises and don’t think there are many benefits to working their lower body. This couldn’t be farther from the truth, because strengthening your lower body makes you stronger overall. People get turned off by lower body exercises because it can take longer to see results and they’re harder to perform. Not committing to a leg day will give you chicken legs, which creates an unbalanced look.
