Everyone can agree that abs are a symbol of physical excellence. However, there are a lot of misconceptions about how you can get them. Before winter hits, use these tips for getting a six-pack before summer.

1. Change Your Diet

There is a common saying that we form abs in the kitchen and not the gym. This saying rings true and means you will have to change your diet to get a six-pack. You will want to consume plenty of protein and vegetables. This also means consuming lots of water and cutting fat, sugar, and fried foods out of your regular diet.

2. Do Cardio

The key to seeing your abs is by reducing your fat. A great way to achieve this is to do plenty of cardio workouts. At Utah Home Fitness, we carry top of the line equipment so you can get your cardio in right at home. Popular options include the True Performance treadmill, Inspire exercise bike, and more. To burn even more fat, consider doing fasted cardio, which means doing it on an empty stomach.

3. Do Abdominal Exercises

In addition to cardio, another tip for getting a six-pack before summer is to perform workouts that will specifically strengthen your core. Some of the best workouts that will work your abs include:

  • Crunches
  • Sit-ups
  • Planks
  • Leg raises
  • Russian twist
  • Toe reach
  • Cross mountain climbers
  • Barbell back squats

Try working out your core at least three days a week. Also think about throwing in some circuit training, which will combine a few of these ab workouts.

4. Slow Down Your Movements

As you perform abdominal exercises, they might come easily to you. This might mean that you are going too fast and aren’t truly working your abs as much as you could be. When you are doing these ab exercises, slow down your movements to concentrate your efforts on your core muscles. If you do the exercises correctly, you should feel a nice burn in your core and will be on your way to getting your six-pack.
